Social media video production

Athena Films is an Emmy winning studio in New York City producing social media video the way television used to be made: formats, seasons and craft, delivered vertical and short form for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.

Made for the feed, not resized for it

A commercial cut down to nine by sixteen still behaves like a commercial. Feed video has its own grammar: the first frame has to earn the second, the sound has to survive a phone speaker, and the viewer has to know within a beat what kind of thing they are watching.

We design to that grammar from the treatment. Hooks are written before shot lists, packaging is tested at thumbnail size, and every episode is built so the next one is easier to start.

Volume without losing the craft

Feeds are hungry, which is usually where quality goes to die. We solve it with format discipline instead of shortcuts: one repeatable structure, block shooting, and an in house finishing room so a week of material does not sit in a queue.

The result is a steady slate a social team can actually programme, with the colour, sound and pacing of something made for broadcast.

What we deliver

  • Vertical episodic series

Original formats built for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, produced a season at a time.

  • Short form video

In house edit, colour, sound design and mix, delivered vertical, square or wide to spec.

  • Paid cutdowns

Every shoot yields variants a media team can run, pulled from the same coverage as the episodes.

  • Always on production

Batch shooting mapped to your content calendar so the feed never goes quiet.

Questions we get

What is social media video production?

Producing video designed for the feed rather than adapted to it: vertical framing, a hook inside the first second, sound design that works on a phone speaker, and a format built to repeat so the audience returns.

How much video do you deliver per shoot?

We shoot for a season, not a single asset. A typical production day yields a set of episodes plus vertical cutdowns and paid variants pulled from the same coverage.

Do you make vertical only, or wide too?

Both. We shoot vertical native for the feed and bank wide coverage in the same setups, then deliver vertical, square and wide masters to spec.

Can you work inside an existing content calendar?

Yes. Season based production maps cleanly onto a monthly or quarterly calendar, and we deliver in batches so a social team is never waiting on one edit.

How do you measure whether it worked?

Retention and repeat viewing first, then shares and saves. Those are the signals the platforms reward, and they tell us which hooks and formats to keep for the next block.
